Our work is driven by our mission:
To ensure that girls around the world are educated and empowered. When every girl is free to reach her full potential, our work will be done.
Girl Rising believes that storytelling can be a transformational catalyst for impact and long-term social change. Our stories are about ordinary but extraordinary girls from all over the world. They are told in the form of film, television, social media videos, graphic novels, radio, curricula and more.
The Original GR Film
We began with a film about nine unforgettable girls, written by award-winning authors and voiced by some of Hollywood's biggest celebrities. Today, it stands at the heart of our programs that help girls and their communities thrive and reaches many more through public screenings. The film has been translated into over 30 languages and adapted in Hindi, Hausa, Lingala, Swahili, Congolese French, and Tshiluba.
We Will Rise
Produced by the Girl Rising team, and in partnership with former First Lady Michelle Obama and the Let Girls Learn initiative, We Will Rise showcases stories of girls overcoming barriers to education in Liberia and Morocco and is now CNN's highest rated documentary special.
We’ve taken our mission to the page with Girl Rising: Changing the World One Girl at a Time. Written by award-winning author Tanya Lee Stone, this young adult book is packed with stories from the field, statistics, and photos. Now available in English, French and Korean.
Incredible organizations around the world provide schools, scholarships, and other resources for girls. However, far fewer are working to change beliefs and mindsets to ensure that girls are able to access those resources. We work with on-the-ground partners to change attitudes and behaviors, and spark community-led initiatives. Together, we advance a future where every girl has the opportunity to go to school, stay in school, and is empowered to reach her full potential.
“Before I didn’t care about my children’s education, but now I care 100%.”
